Marc Bolan T.Rex The Slider
The Slider
67" x 35,5"
nly the good die young!
Marc Bolan GlamRock Star of the 70ties and head of the group T.Rex died in a car crash in a Mini Cooper. His girlfriend Gloria Jones was driving when they hit a tree on the way home from a party.
His fans are still clinging to the theory, that he might have survived, if he would have used his Rolls Royce.
("
... it’s good for my voice ...")
Unfortunately his driver had a day off. But we can't influence our destiny anyway.

Marc Bolan's Lyrics and Music influenced me since I was a teenager. When I was 15 I bought the LP
The Slider on a flee market in London. This meant a lot to me, because I owned very few records.

The sketch was made years before I finally started the painting. It was about time to put it on canvas to honor Marc Bolan's remembrance.
Turning his lyrics into a painting was easy for me.
The name of the Band T.Rex is visible in the painting as what it is, a Tyrannosaurus Rex, also the songs are to be seen: Planet Queen, Rabbit Fighter, Ballrooms of Mars
and the top hat from the album cover
The Slider.

The combination of his Rolls Royce, the Mini Cooper logo and his coffin doesn't need much explanation, if you know the circumstances of his death.
Bolan died on 16 September 1977, two weeks before his 30th birthday.
Only the good die young!
